Dr. Majdi Abdou is the Founding Partner of Abdou Law Firm (ALF), member of SRDB Worldwide Network in Libya.
He is an expert in advising companies with multinational operations on multi-jurisdictional projects.
Majdi has decades of experience in commercial and corporate Law, with a particular focus on corporate and structured finance, M&A, restructuring and investigations.
His practice spans a great variety of corporate projects, including outsourcing, network procurement, services agreements, technology co-operation and collaboration arrangements. He has a wealth of experience in projects in the infrastructure sector.
He also has extensive experience in dealing with the day-to-day commercial issues that companies face in their operations in Libya, including agency and representation agreements, consumer law, and advertising and sales promotion compliance issues.
He has additionally built-up significant experience in the employment aspects of M&A and outsourcing transactions in Libya, as well as in business restructuring projects involving social plans.
Majdi has finally developed a practice in other areas of law including telecommunication, oil and gas, civil and banking law.
He acts for companies with a great variety of corporate structures including newly established Foreign Invested Enterprises (FIEs), and operating in various sectors, such as start-ups, investment funds etc.
He has acted for many foreign entities operating in Libya, such as Ericsson Libya AB Gazprom, Calico, International Medical Crop, Eni, OMV, Nokia/ Alcatel and Adria Mar Shipbuilding. Additionally, he has advised major international banks and financial institutions, such as Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, ICBC, Standard Bank, MoneyGram, Société Générale, Visa and MasterCard.
Madji has acted alongside prestigious international law firms, such as Allen & Overy (before the firm merged with Shearman & Sterling), DLA Piper, Baker & McKenzie, Dentons, King and Wood Mallesons, Holman Fenwick Willan, Pinsent Masons, Faegre Baker Daniels, Two Birds, Al Tamimi & Company.
Madji has also provided numerous expert reports to foreign domestic courts in the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Germany, as well as to international arbitral tribunals.
Madji has been involved in many different committees responsible for developing the Libyan legal system, whether as a committee member or head of the committee.
As ALF’s Founding Partner, he oversees the overall firm strategy, in close collaboration with the Managing Partner.
Besides his practice as counsel, Madji is an esteemed academic lecturer at the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies.
He also worked as a consultant at Libya’s Prime Minister Office, where he was responsible for international economic co-operation affairs.
Majdi has a strong academic background both in Libya and aboard, the United States of America and in the United Kingdom (where he obtained a PhD). He also received training from Assurety in London, on the provision of witness evidence in proceedings before UK courts.
