CHAFIC NEHME

Chafic started his legal career in 1985 in Beirut working mainly in banking, financial, corporate, commercial/civil law and litigation.

In 1997 he was primarily assigned to assist a pool of Saudi and Emirati investors to carry out all legal tasks related to the acquisition of four Lebanese banks and their merger in a new prime bank, achieving the biggest merger transaction in the country at that time. He served until 2002 as General Counsel of the group fulfilling the role of Board Secretary and head of legal department, where he restructured and managed the internal legal department of the new entity and reorganized external network of law firms inherited from the four merged entities. He provided the Board with legal assistance on all aspects of banking law and finance, including bank security and loans, syndications and other financings, debt restructuring and collection and derivatives.

Chafic acquired extensive experience in telecommunications, real estate, property and hospitality, Islamic Shari’a and Arab countries’ laws, incorporations, joint ventures, company secretarial and administration services, establishment of branches, subsidiaries and representative offices in cross-border transactions and agency and distributorships.

As for litigation and arbitration, Chafic covered a diversified range of disputes, including disputes in specialized business areas, such as contracting, banking, transportation, intellectual property and assets recovery.

Chafic holds a Ph.D from Paris II, (Assas) University (1995), a Masters (1987) and a law degree (1985) from Saint Joseph University, Beirut.

In 2020, Chafic joins the international network of SRDB Law Firm in order to be particularly in charge of the Middle East and Gulf countries.
